I been contemplating the Fcars replacement and I’ve wanted it to be something I could drive and not have to worry about. This came through and I can have it for fairly cheap. 2016 GT premium with the performance package. Has a cold air intake, Borla cat back, ford racing short throw, and what appear to be Eibach sport springs.

I’ve been on the hunt for a 996 or a c6 grand sport or something along those lines, but this is slightly less expensive and will save me some $$ for goodies.

buy the stang.
1) It’s newer than a 996 and it won’t have IMS issues.
2) it has more space and a better interior than a C6 vette
3) it’s already got some toys
4) it’s cheaper
5) I’m ordering on in about a month or so

The advantage of buying new is that you know that it hasn’t run anyone over yet.

Exactly what I was thinking.....

Your first crowd of people is a milestone for a Mustang. You’ve got to be there to enjoy it.

I’d go for it, but I’m a bloodthirsty bastard. I guess it depends on exactly how much you would prefer a two seater.

How is this cheaper than a 996, I find those for $17-25k all day long (plus they cannot depreciate any further). IMS fix is $2k but if you are getting a 60-90k mi car it will either have it done or be discounted to make up for it (plus the chances of it failing after the 90k mark are slim).

That being said, a 12-17 year age gap between the two does lean in favor of the murderstang. However, even keeping $10k in reserve for old car fixes the 996 is both the cheaper car in the short and long term (especially if they are dragged upwards in value along with every other 911).

Which would you rather kill? IMS bearings? Go for the 996. Crowds? Go for the Mustang.

Personally, I’d go for a 996 but then I’ve never really been a Mustang kind of guy.

Did you end up picking a 4x4 or truck yet?

Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 are arguably better Mustangs and can be had for the same money.

That being said this is a great find

Because I would only buy a 996 turbo, which is still $40,000.

A 996 will be a much better balanced car, but the Mustang will be nicer inside.

I can’t quite do any of the current available muscle cars. Mustang has no sunroof, Camaro C-pillar is all fucked up looking, Challenger is fat and crappy.

I like your 996TT or C6 Z06 ideas better, even though the Z06 roof is fixed.

Those don’t have the IMS issues, and I honestly don’t think they’ll ever be worth less than what you’d buy one for. Murderstang GT will lose $10k in depreciation in the next 4years, whereas the 996 Turbo could gain $10k in appreciation in the same time frame. Even with a major service/repair you come out ahead on the Turbo, even if the value holds constant or depreciates modestly.

Neither makes a good daily driver, and maybe the threat of dropping significant cash on the 911 is not for you. But the Turbo is a super car and someone already decided the Murderstang was not worth keeping.

You already know the better value in a used car, but the depreciation curve is still steeper on the Ford. I’d only consider a GT350, any other mustang just is not special enough to me.

The Ford is a boat with a very different ethos and use case when compared to a 996. Cost to own is also night and day for these two. What appeals to you in each car?
